It may be hard to pinpoint exactly how many people suffer from light, moderate or chronic pain in this world, but experts believe that about 20% of the world’s population is in pain. Sadly, not many get the proper check-up needed to identify the root cause of the pain and often neglect seeing a doctor about it, until it becomes serious.

When it comes to pain relief medication, there is one that is a preferred choice. This is none other than Tramadol tablets which were first introduced as a pain relief medication by German pharmaceutical company, Grunenthal Group in 1977.

Those who have had prior experience with Tramadol tablets understand the different types of conditions it treats. But even then, there are some misconceptions which must be taken note of. In this blog, we are going to look at five such misconceptions/details about Tramadol capsules.

1.     Tramadol isn’t an NSAID:

Contrary to popular belief, Tramadol isn’t a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), but an opiate agonist. Its only job is to change the way one’s body senses pain.

2.     Tramadol must not be chewed, split or crushed

Tramadol capsules are always to be to be taken whole. If taken in a way that hasn’t been recommended, there could potentially be very serious consequences.

3.     Tramadol can become addictive

Never take more than what has been prescribed as Tramadol has the potential to become addictive. It causes dependency where the patient feels they can’t survive without the medication. If one has a habit of taking Tramadol 50mg, it must not be stopped abruptly as one may experience withdrawal symptoms. A gradual decrease in dosage is the right way to go about it.

4.     Usage during pregnancy must be avoided

Tramadol tablets must be avoided by expecting women. Like any other pain relief medication, it too, is designed to provide quick relief. This is also written on the prescription leaflet which comes along with it. It can only be taken after thorough consultation with your gynaecologist.

5.     The side-effects are temporary:

One may feel dizzy or nauseous after taking a Tramadol 50mg tablet, but the side-effects wear off after some time. In very rare cases does one suffer from severe side-effects such as sweating, rashes, vertigo, dry mouth or itching. That being said, it is appropriate to say that Tramadol capsules are a safe alternative to alleviate pain as compared to many other pain relief medication out there.
